Trauma Informed Care Trainers and Consultants: Professional. Experienced. Engaging.

It’s no secret that those we serve are involved in any number of systems, such as child welfare and criminal justice. But, given the dramatic impact of unresolved trauma in an individual’s life, it’s also no wonder.

Our Trauma Informed Care experts are highly trained in some of the best practice models; they contribute to research; and, they have deep experience in child welfare, clinical, school-based and law-enforcement settings.

There’s something else that makes our TIC team tick: a great deal of empathy.

Our trainers and consultants average over 20 years of experience in direct care and practice. This team knows the science, as well as the practical implications of Trauma Informed Care and how to put theory into action.

  • Certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™. Our team has achieved certification in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics through the Neurosequential Network led by Dr. Bruce Perry, a nationally-recognized child psychiatrist and neuroscientist.
  • Subject Matter Expert for Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Wellpoint’s senior coach and consultant, Sara Daniel, has co-led the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Trauma Sensitive School Initiative and co-authored the Trauma Sensitive Schools Learning Module Series.
  • Published in scientific journals. Wellpoint consultant, Tim Grove, co-led a three-year research study on the effectiveness of applying a Trauma Informed Care case management approach in child welfare, published by the Journal of Child Custody.

Sarah Morschauser

APSW

Sarah Morschauser, APSW, has both personal and professional experience in the child welfare and foster care systems, which allows her to understand the value of healing through relational connections. Sarah works with all team members to obtain the information that is critical to creating a comprehensive assessment that supports youth, caregivers and team members.

Julie Scott

Julie Scott

MS, LPC, NCC

Julie Scott, MS, LPC, NCC, focuses on the impact of early life experiences on brain development. NMT Assessments provide a road map for services and therapeutic supports to best enhance a child’s current functioning. Julie works with families, schools and teams to enhance a child’s ability to regulate, relate and reason. Julie also consults and presents on the Neurosequential Model and helping children in home and school environments. Julie has been certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics™ (NMT) and has completed Phase II/Train-The-Trainer certification.

Michael Joranger

I have more than three decades of experience in child welfare and psychotherapy across a wide variety of settings, and also bring SaintA’s Trauma Informed philosophy to trainings in crisis management, the ACE Interface project, and the Mandt system.

Kathleen Ayala

Kathleen Ayala, MSW, APSW, uses her experience working within treatment foster care and her knowledge of NM to educate families and teams about the impact of adverse events on current functioning. A believer in relationship building, Kathleen provides strength-based strategies that support the stability and well-being of youth, caregivers and their support teams.

Tim Grove

Tim Grove

Senior Trainer

Tim has 25 years of professional experience in a variety of direct care and administrative positions, including In-Home Services, Foster Care, Treatment Foster Care, Residential Treatment, Child Welfare, Community-Based Services, Quality Improvement and Staff Development.

As the senior leader of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) initiatives across all organizational programs, he was responsible for implementing Wellpoint Care Network’s TIC philosophy and practices, including Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT).

He also created a TIC training curriculum centered around the 7 Essential Ingredients (7ei) of understanding and practicing TIC. He is a Mentor with the ChildTrauma Academy and a Master Trainer in Dr. Rob Anda and Laura Porter’s ACE Interface curriculum. Grove and Wellpoint Care Network  team’s work has been highlighted in various media, including a 2018 “60 Minutes” segment with special correspondent Oprah Winfrey and a three-year research study on the effectiveness of 7ei in child welfare published by the Journal of Child Custody in 2019.

My Story

I’ve been at Wellpoint for more than 20 years. At Wellpoint, I have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and families at a systemic level.  Transforming systems such as K-12 and Early Childhood Education using equitable trauma informed practice has been fulfilling work. When you give a teacher or administrator and understanding along with tools that they need to be successful, you not only influence the students they have right now, but all of the students who they will encounter in the future. At Wellpoint, we are always taking on new challenges and looking for ways to innovate to make a greater impact.

Education & Experience

Sara Daniel has been helping school districts and early care settings work with students affected by trauma, mental health issues and behavioral challenges for over 20 years. She is currently a senior coach and consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Trauma Sensitive School Initiative and the co-author of the Trauma Sensitive Schools Learning Module Series. She has worked with countess school districts nationwide and has trained thousands of school staff on the 7ei of Trauma Sensitive Schools. Sara is also certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) and is the leader of the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) Interface Master Trainer Project for the State of Wisconsin.

I earned my master’s degree in Social Work from UW Milwaukee and am certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and the Neurosequential Model of Education. I oversee the Wellpoint Learning Center including training and consulting to the community.

Corey Norlander

Corey Norlander

Lieutenant of Criminal Investigations

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office

Corey Norlander is the Lieutenant of Criminal Investigations at the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently in his 30th year in law enforcement, having served as a patrol officer, School Resource Officer, and then detective before becoming a supervisor in the detective group.

His work in sensitive crimes investigations and multi-disciplinary team development has brought him to an unintended recognition and understanding of trauma on victims and responders. In addition to serving in law enforcement, he serves as Co-Chair on the Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Response Team and trains for the Wisconsin Department of Justice and Wellpoint Care Network.
